Tolkien Trewsday: Year Four

Tolkien Trewsday: Year Four

Year Four of Tolkien Trewsday is upon us with Week 157.

The “Story so far…” (calendar) and “Introducing Tolkien Trewsday” posters will remain unchanged in design for the time being. This blog page now becomes the hub for keeping informed about what is coming up for Tolkien Trewsday.

Following on from last year, the logo has two versions. The version above and this version below. You'll see both on advertising and elsewhere.

If you are new to Tolkien Trewsday or need a refresher, please visit the “Introducing Tolkien Trewsday” blog page where you also see the themes for the first two years. There are links on the individual themes entries on there to blog posts written specifically for those themes. Year Three has its own blog page, a link to which can be found below.

πŸ“Œ Tolkien Trewsday: Year Three

Tolkien Trewsday is a positive-action community event on social media centred around a weekly theme chosen via a steerage group and also from community suggestions. Tolkien Trewsday is mainly now based on Bluesky, having moved away from Twitter as that platform turns toxic under the current ownership and degradation of fandom on there. We have tried other platforms, including Facebook and Discord, in the past - perhaps we'll experiment in the coming year.

A handy help sheet is provided below to explain all you need to know about Tolkien Trewsday and this is posted each week on a starter thread, usually just before midnight UK going from Monday into Tuesday. Entries are not restricted to just Tuesday, participants can add content with the hashtag #TolkienTrewsday whenever convenient to them.

πŸ“œ Alt text for the helpsheet:

Trewsday is the Hobbit name for Tuesday! Tolkien Trewsday is a community event across several online spaces: Twitter, BlueSky and now the Tolkien Society Facebook group.

Each week we form a fellowship to collectively post about a pre-selected theme about Tolkien (his works and his life) as well as adaptions, academic writing and creative stuff such as fanfic, fanart and cosplay.

Themes are selected by myself (the organiser) and also via polls or guest hosts/curators. Together we will build a collective outpouring of creativity, knowledge and love for J.R.R. Tolkien.

The inspiration for this comes from the highly successful #FolkloreThursday which engaged lovers of Folklore, academics, artists and more to share their love of folklore.

We only ask that if you are joining in, please do so with courtesy and kindness in your posts/tweets. This is a positive-action community event, open to all and supportive of fan diversity. Intolerance, racism, bigotry have no place here. Thank you!

A new year means a new design! In 2025 the Two Trees remain symbolic but now Telperion (Silver Tree) has a sword trunk and Laurelin (Gold Tree) has a staff trunk.

πŸ”” Themed event for March 2026: Realms

Tolkien Trewsday steerage group member Bladorthin suggested the shared theme of “Realms” for March 2026 covering the core fantasy races of Middle-earth.

I created a series of five posters for each of the weeks in March 2026. You can see these below.

πŸ”” Themed event for April 2026: The Rangers of the North smial takeover

My local Tolkien Society smial is hosting a takeover of the themes for April 2026. Smials are local-based groups of fans who meet in person. These groups are usually organised by Tolkien Society members and hold an unofficial status as the grassroots outreach for the society. My local smial is “The Rangers of the North” who are currently rotating moots (meets) between Liverpool, Manchester and Preston in the UK. You can find out more on our website group page here
