Date: Saturday 5th June 2021
Time: 8pm BST (+1 GMT) or 15.00 /servertime
Type: RP-lite storytelling and social event (all welcome)
RP: Not expected/required but you are welcome to RP at the event
Server: Laurelin
Location: Meet at 7 Haven Way, Nan-e-Faer, Falathlorn Homesteads

You are cordially invited to an annual event, “The Hemlock Glade,” celebrating both the “Song of Beren & Lúthien” and also Tolkien’s love for his wife Edith. We’ll sit down by a warm fire, much like Aragorn and the Hobbits did on Weathertop, and recall the moment Beren saw Lúthien for the first time.

We’ll talk about the real-life event that inspired that moment and where it happened. Then we’ll have time just to relax in pleasant company, chat and listen to some music. This is RP-lite (so RP or not, choice is yours), all welcome.

The event takes place on: Saturday 5th June 2021 @ 8PM GMT or 15.00 /servertime.

The event will begin at: 7 Haven Way, Nan-e-Faer, Falathlorn Homesteads.

Before the event starts, my captain, Heimdalli, will be on hand to get you to the entrance of the Falathlorn Homesteads.

Background:

J.R.R. Tolkien’s “Beren and Lúthien” was published on 1st June 2017, one hundred years after Edith danced for Tolkien in a “hemlock glade” near Roos, East Yorkshire. This moment inspired the meeting of two of Tolkien’s greatest characters. The event will explore the story behind the tale and also the tale itself.

Michael Flowers of the Tolkien Society has written extensively on the location of inspiration for the story. I am grateful to him for running a guided tour to the place and other locations associated with Tolkien in May 2017. His articles are well worth a read:
