Ranatuor's Lore - The Shire Chicken that had extra special eggs…

He's wandered all over Middle-earth...

The Shire Chicken that had extra special eggs…

There is one blog about LOTRO that really struck a chord with me – “Golden Treasure Inside is Hid”. It focused on the Easter Eggs and lore hidden in the game by Turbine (and now SSG), the knowing little nods to things outside the game and also the lore-loving finds you come across as you wander about Middle-earth in LOTRO. Examples include finding the (blocked) entrance to the cave where the Thorin’s company found the troll cache in the Trollshaws. There are abandoned buckets outside. Or finding Goldilocks and three bears at a house in Rohan (and not that far away is a squirrel house!). And let’s not forget the numerous sightings of a rabbit sat on a bear skin, out in the wild (and there’s a little nod to a certain Rabbit in Monty Python and the Holy Grail in-game too!).

Golden Treasure Inside is Hid” was a fantastic source for all these little things that the developers sneaked into LOTRO and it is a sadly missed resource. Unfortunately the blog writer has moved on from LOTRO, but I hope to at least continue some of the good work already started by exploring and uncovering new Easter eggs, hidden away in the hard to find places. I’ll tread old paths and new in doing so, on both Ranatuor and on Lassewinta.

So, with no further ado, number one in LOTRO’s Easter Eggs…

Easter Egg #1 The Snowman of the Vale of Thrain
Possibly the first Easter Egg in LOTRO and definitely the first snowman in LOTRO, a long time before we got Winterhome and were able to barter for our own snowmen housing decorations. The snowman atop a hill in the Vale of Thrain, observes the passing of all newcomers to the land of Ered Luin in Middle-earth, knowing winter is already here and he quietly observes our first fledgling attempts at heroism. Thank you Mr Snowman for being there for us! Definitely a nice (re)find whilst I was celebrating the Yule festival too.

Location:
17.7S, 102.0W, Vale of Thrain, Ered Luin.
