Imladris - A quick visual guide to the books of and about J.R.R. Tolkien

A quick visual guide to the books of and about J.R.R. Tolkien:
Infographics

In the build-up to the release of Amazon Studio's "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" TV show I created a series of infographics to help newcomers (and no-so-new fans) to the works of J.R.R. Tolkien understand the range of books that were available from Tolkien's own works, to books about him and the vast scholarly corpus being published year on year.

I was given assistance and advice by a group of fans, scholars and lore-experts on Twitter including Dr. Dimitra Fimi whilst I designed the infographic. Some decisions were made due to the space limits at the time. Not everything was able to fit or go where was suggested. The infographics here should not be considered "completed" since I may yet move some of the items around, but they are available here as useful guides. I created some simpler infographic for "The Rings of Power" related books, included here too.

Imladris - The Tolkien license infographic

The Tolkien license infographic

In an update to the 3 August 2021 blog post explaining the Tolkien license, I createdan infographic to help show the complexity surrounding the rights to material based on the works of J.R.R. Tolkien. The map is also available on the "Licensing" page for the Tolkien Gateway here. Note the timeline on the top of right is extremely brief, just showing certain changes of license between United Artists, Saul Zaentz and Embracer. The more complicated Hobbit rights are not shown here.

🎲 The dice are still rolling favourably for Middle-earth though it has gone a little quiet on the release front with some delays to games. Nevertheless, for gamers and those who love J.R.R. Tolkien’s works, there is a lot of choice open to you. From board games, card games, roleplaying games, mobile games and PC/console games.

In the Footsteps of J.R.R. Tolkien – the revolver at the Imperial War Museum North

The Tolkien Randír1
Trip 1 (14 February 2023): J.R.R. Tolkien’s Webley .455 Mark 6 (VI military) revolver at the Imperial War Museum North, Manchester

Looking across the Salford Quays towards the Imperial War Museum North, Manchester

The first trip, as a “Tolkien Randír” (pilgrim1), on what I hope to be a year-long (and more?) tour of Tolkien-related sites isn’t in fact a place Tolkien visited, but a place where one of the objects associated with his life has ended up.

Note: An accompanying Twitter 🧵  for my trip can be found here.
